Pia came to Mr Francesc Malagelada with a forefoot problem that was getting in the way of an active life. After the procedure the question that mattered most was a simple one: would the foot hold up when it was really put to the test? The answer came at Hyrox London, one of the toughest mass participation fitness events there is, which Pia finished in 1:35:16 with "zero pain" in the foot.
The story
Pia has always been active, the sort of person who builds the week around training. Over time, a problem with one foot started to get in the way of all of it.
What Pia wanted was straightforward: a clear answer on what was wrong, and a realistic route back to the things that mattered.
That is what brought Pia to Mr Malagelada. The plan was never just to settle the immediate problem. It was to give Pia a foot that could take a real load again.
What we did
From there, the focus moved to a steady, structured return to full activity, building load back gradually rather than rushing it.
At a recent follow-up, Pia and Mr Malagelada also talked about the fourth toe. His view was practical. Given how well Pia was moving and the fact that they had just completed a Hyrox, the toe was best left alone for now. If it ever becomes painful, surgery is something they can discuss then. Not every issue needs an operation, and knowing when to wait is part of good care.
Then came the test Pia had been building towards. A Hyrox pairs eight 1 km runs with eight functional workout stations, back to back, the kind of sustained full-body effort that finds any weakness. Pia finished it. In their own email afterwards: “Hyrox was fantastic, and I had zero pain in my foot.” They are already planning the next London race, and hopefully one more in Europe before then.
