Mr Malagelada was Faculty at the AO course in Cambridge

Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon

During two days Mr. Malagelada attended the AO Trauma Blended Course – Foot & Ankle Trauma and Reconstruction as faculty. After having had to postpone the last edition due to Covid, a new format was implemented this week in Cambridge. The first of its type in UK AO courses, the blended format included online lectures with case discussions and hands-on practical sessions. The course was aimed at senior trainees, fellows, or junior consultants specializing in foot and ankle orthopedic surgery.

Mr. Malagelada’s lecture was on the topic of “Anatomy of the Ankle Joint and Ligaments” in relation to surgical reconstruction, and during the practical sessions, he taught surgical techniques for fixation of pilon fractures, posterior malleolus approaches and syndesmosis fixation, malleolar osteotomy for talus fractures, fixation of calcaneal fractures, cuboid, navicular, and Lisfranc fracture fixation, and external fixation of the foot and ankle.

AO Trauma is the world’s largest global trauma and orthopedic community formed by an international network of dedicated surgeons that work to promote excellence in patient care and outcomes in trauma and musculoskeletal disorders. Education and teaching are a fundamental part of a surgeon’s practice, helping to stay up-to-date, expanding horizons, and preparing the new generation of surgeons.
